Biography

Prof. Prasad KDV Yarlagadda worked in industry and university over 30 years in number of countries including India, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Papua New Guinea and Australia. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Nagarjuna University, Andhra Pradesh, Post graduate degree in Production Engineering from The PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and his doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India. He spent during his early part of professional career in Hong Kong, Singapore, India, The Papua New Guinea and moved to Australia during 1996. He held number of appointments during past 20 years and worked in Queensland University of Technology and long with number of industries, Australian Federal Agencies.  He is currently Professor in Smart Systems and Project Director: Airports of the Future Research in Queensland University of Technology, Australia. He had number of distinguished appointments in various universities in India, China and Australia. He received more than $12M funding for his research for various national and international collaborators and he published more than 425 papers with around 40 key note speeches delivered across the world. In addition Prof. Prasad has organized and also Chairperson of number of international meetings and delegations, which contributed to larger extent to Global Economy and also improving Bilateral relationship between India, Australia and number of other countries.

During past 20 years Prof. Prasad received number of distinguished awards namely; GCMM2004 Global Research Award as a recognition of his contributions In manufacturing engineering research, Fryderyk Staub Golden Owl Award in 2007 from World Academy of Manufacturing and Materials, Poland for his outstanding contribution to engineering discipline in international arena, 2008 Brisbane Times Multi cultural community award for his outstanding service and engagement with Queensland community, Outstanding Volunteer award from Queensland Government for his engagement with multicultural Queensland activities. In addition he received most prestigious awards; In 2012 he received a Prestigious Great Honor Award for his outstanding and life time contribution to the discipline of manufacturing in world Arena from Materials Division of Polish Academy of Sciences. In 2016 Professor Yarlagadda was awarded Order of Australia Medal and included in Queens Birthday Honors list in recognition of his outstanding service to Engineering Profession and Indian Community in Queensland, Australia. Through his various leadership roles Prof. Prasad has helped to build a solid foundation for Indian Diaspora in Australia and also established strong partnership with various other ethnic communities and also with various both Queensland government and Australian Federal Government.

In addition to his professional contributions, he has taken leadership role in many community organizations in both Australia and Internationally. He was President, Society of Manufacturing Engineers during 1999-2001, President, The India Australia Society Inc. during 2007-2010, President Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland during 2013-2016. In addition Prof. Prasad Yarlagadda has a played a key role in establishing Confederation of Indian Associations of Australia as Founding member and also in establishing , GOPIO (Qld.) Chapter He is one of the 10 persons taken this initiation to establish these organizations. . At present is Chairperson of GOPIO International Science and Technology Council. He is Fellow of number of professional organizations such as Institution of Engineers, India, Engineers Australia, World Academy of Manufacturing and Materials, Society of Manufacturing Engineers are among others.  He is Editor in Chief of Journal of Engineering Technology, Deputy Editor-in-chief, International journal of Achievements in Materials and manufacturing Engineering, International journal of  Achieves of Materials Science and Engineering, and also editorial board member of 18 ISI listed Journals.

  • Recipient of 2000 Outstanding Scholars of the 20th Century Award in honour of his outstanding contribution in the field of manufacturing engineering, Cambridge, UK, 2000
  • Recipient of 2001 QUT Outstanding Academic Contribution Award in Research and Scholarship, for his contribution in support of university mission and goals in research and scholarship, 2001
  • Recipient of 2001 QUT Equity Award for his outstanding efforts in support of QUT’s equity objectives and promotion of good practice and innovation in implementing equity within the university, 2001
  • Recipient of 2002 Innovation in BEE Education award, as recognition to his contribution in Teaching Innovation, 2002. One award each year is made to a member of staff from B.E.E. Faculty (Across all disciplines of Built Environment and Engineering)
  • Recipient of 2004 Global Research Award (GCMM) as recognition to his contribution to Manufacturing Engineering Discipline. One award once in two years is made to an outstanding researcher in the manufacturing engineering discipline
  • In 2007 Professor Prasad Yarlagadda received Fryderyk Staub Golden Owl Award from World Academy of Manufacturing and Materials, Poland for his outstanding contribution to the discipline of materials and manufacturing engineering in the international arena.
