Biography

Dr. Haro is an assistant professor in orthopaedics in the division of sports medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.  In addition to being a passionate educator of medical students and residents, he is board certified in orthopaedics and has a special research interest in complex knee ligament injuries, meniscus injuries, and articular cartilage restoration.

He has a life-long passion for sports medicine and he began his academic and professional career by obtaining his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Purdue University.  It was in this capacity that he was fortunate to first have the opportunity to work with numerous high-level Division I athletes and gained medical experience as part of the Indianapolis Colts NFL organization.  This “on the field” familiarity continued while serving as an athletic trainer at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
With a thirst for continuing his education and improving upon his practical knowledge, Dr. Haro attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he successfully obtained his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy.  Upon graduation, he enrolled at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree, while subsequently completing orthopaedic training at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Haro has developed a passion for treating complex knee injuries, cartilage restoration as well as all sports injuries, and notably obtained and completed the prestigious sports medicine fellowship at Rush University in Chicago.  It was here that he served as an assistant team surgeon for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox and DePaul University.  Additionally, Dr. Haro has had his clinical and basic scientific research published in both journal format and in medical texts.

He is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the International Cartilage Research Society, and the American Medical Association.  He is also an editor for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
