Biography

Dr. Justin Sambol, Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and a graduate of the NJMS Class of 1997, has been appointed to the position of Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.

Dr. Sambol graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993.  He graduated from New Jersey Medical School in 1997.  Following his graduation, Dr. Sambol completed his residency in Surgery at NJMS in 2003 and then went on to complete a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at NJMS in 2005.  Dr. Sambol serves as Vice Chair of Surgery and Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery.  As of January 1, 2015, Dr. Sambol began his term as President of the University Hospital Medical/Dental Staff.  In the past, he has served as Treasurer of UPA and President of the NJMS Faculty Organization.

In his role as Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Dr. Sambol will be a member of the Dean’s Senior Management Team and have responsibility for the following:

  • The overall clinical practice of New Jersey Medical School faculty;
  • Adherence and monitoring of the Clinical Services Agreement with University Hospital;
  • Negotiation and management of NJMS physician contracts with managed care companies;
  • Management of the Staff of the Office of the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs.
