Profile

Dr. Kontoyannis received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from University of Patras, Greece. He received his M.Sc in 1985 and his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1988 from Georgetown University. Dr. Kontoyannis is currently Professor and Director of Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory at Department of Pharmacy, University of Patras. He has served as Chairman of the Department for four years and was member of the University Senate, Bioethics Committee and the Research Committee for eight years. He is reviewer for 18 international journals and member of the Editorial Board in two international journals. He is project reviewer for GSRT bilateral proposals and evaluator for FP7 projects (REA/EU). For the last 5 years consults pharmaceutical companies on characterization of polymorphic API in formulations and their patentability. He has been awarded 1 NATO research Grant, 5 EU and several national grants.

Research Interest

Drug Polymorphic Stability and Identification in Formulations; Development of non-destructive analytical methods using spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. Applications in bio-ceramics, drugs, urinary stones, bones, liposomes, polymers etc.; New Diagnostic Tools for Bone Diseases.
