Biography

Dr. Viviana Andreescu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville. She received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of Bucharest, Romania and her M.A. (Sociology), M.S. (Interdisciplinary Studies – Statistics & Geographic Analysis), and Ph.D. (Urban & Public Affairs) degrees from the University of Louisville, USA, where she started her graduate studies as a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship (1993-1995). She teaches Theories of Crime and Delinquency, Applied Statistics for Criminal Justice, Program Evaluation in Criminal Justice, International Perspectives on Violence, Women and Crime, and Criminal Behavior. Dr. Andreescu is the co-editor of a book published in 2013 by the University Press of America and the (co)-author of forty book chapters and articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as Criminal Justice Studies, Criminal Justice Review, Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice, International Journal of Offender Therapy & Comparative Criminology, Journal of Identity & Migration Studies, Journal of Family History, Journal of the Institute of Justice & International Studies, International Journal of Group Tensions, East European Quarterly, Journal of Social Research & Policy, and International Journal of Police Science & Management.

Research Interest

Dr. Viviana Andreescu's research interests include violent crimes, fear of crime, immigration, policing, and social justice issues related to social minorities, in a national and international context.
