Biography

Mehdi Sohrabi has four university degrees with Ph.D. received from Georgia Institute of Technology specialized in health and medical physics with radiobiology minor; held many national and international positions; presently Professor of Health and Medical Physics(Amirkabir University of Technology); National Distinguished Professor; Member of Iran Academy of Sciences; Founder and Director General of Iran National Radiation Protection Department as Regulatory Authority; over 40 years national/international R&D, health services, education/training, and discoveries/inventions in USA, Iran, IAEA (Vienna; Regional Manager, Technical Officer, International Expert) and other countries; established health physics and radiation protection regulatory and technical infrastructure in Iran and many other countries; supervised 100 M.Sc./Ph.D. theses; authoredover 150international journal articles/over200 conference/ meeting presentations; editorof several international journals;organized many international conferences, education programs, courses; recipient national/international awards such as fromIAEA (shared IAEA 2005 Nobel Prize; DG Distinguished Service Award), USA (Xigma Xi PhD outstanding research award, ANS best student paper award),International (Award of Honor; ICHLNRRA, Osaka, Japan),Iran (National Research Medallion, Allame Tabatabaee National Distinguished Education Award from Iran Elite Organization;many University President Awards, etc.); member/founder of some national/international societies (e.g. IRPA, HPS, INTS, IRPS); recent researchinterests and breakthroughson “Universal Radiation Protection SystemHypothesis”; 4π ion emission mechanism understanding in PFDs;novel 6 MV/higher-energy X-ray photoneutron dosimetry in medical accelerators; Modified single point-to-plane corona poling rotating system for production of electret dosimeters;“Hypothesis on Education Standards and Standards Education in National Education Cycle”.

 

Research Interest

Radiation Protection Specialist on establishing and managing national radiation protection infrastructure; regulatory framework; occupational, patient and public exposure as well as emergency preparedness and response capabilities and technical backstopping and establishing national infrastructure for Quality Assurance/Quality Control Programs.
