Biography

Cheongeun Oh, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the New York University School of Medicine. She earned Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2003. She joined NYU after 2 years of postdoctoral training in Biostatistics at Yale University and 3 years of being a faculty member at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.  Her major research interests include the development of novel Bayesian variable selection by using Markov Chain Monte Carlo for analyzing multiple rare variants within a gene or genomic region in genetic association studies and modeling interventions for lung mortality, developing a back-calculation in estimating cancer incidence in age-period-cohort models. She also collaborates with department of Obstetrics Gynecology & Orthopedics and assists with study design and provides statistical data.

Research Interest

Dr. Oh’s research interests lie broadly in the development of Bayesian statistical methodologies in cancer modeling and efficient computational tools for genetics/genomics research. Specifically, her research interests touch tow areas: 1) to develop novel statistical methodology for the analysis of high dimensional data, which includes genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and next generation sequencing (NGS) 2) to develop population-based models for cancer trends using registry data in designing effective strategies for cancer prevention 3) to develop appropriate statistical models for biomedical/clinical data.
