Profile

After graduation from the Ludwig Maximilans University of Munich (LMU) and achievement of his doctoral degree (Dr med vet) with highest honours, Kaspar Matiasek joined the Department of General Pathology & Neuropathology at the LMU, in 1999. Since then he concentrated on the promotion of neuropathological research, diagnostics and teaching for veterinary students, residents and specialists in veterinary neurology and pathology.
From 2008 to 2010, he became Section Head of Neuropathology Laboratory at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket after which he accepted the appointment as Professor of Clinical & Comparative Neuropathology back at the LMU Munich.
From 2004 to 2006, Kaspar was a board member of ECVN and he became associate member of ECVN in 2009. He is vice president and founding member of the European Association of Veterinary Neuropathology and, since his re-affiliation with the LMU, Kaspar is involved with the Munich Center for NeuroSciences – Brain and Mind.

He heads one of the most active laboratory services for both CNS and PNS diagnostics and receives samples throughout Europe, North America and Australia. His special interests are brain biopsies, peripheral nerve and nerve root disorders, mitochondrial diseases, comparative neurooncology, developmental disorders and pathology of epilepsy.
