Biography

Dr. Vandy Black attended medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he remained for his pediatric residency and fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology.  Heserved as an Instructor and then Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Hematology at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Medicine.  While at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Black served as a sickle cell scholar and Director of the Outpatient Hematology rotation for the combined JHU-NIH pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship program.  He completed a Master’s degree in clinical investigation through the JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health.  In October of 2012, Dr. Black joined the St. Jude Affiliate at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he directs the pediatric sickle cell program and continues to participate in clinical trials designed to develop new treatments for children and adults with sickle cell disease.  He holds adjunct faculty positions with the LSU Health Sciences Center and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
