We attend  around 10-15 on-call days/month

Surgical activity
Surgical activity of the Cardiac Surgery Department
More than 800 major surgical procedures annually. Global hospital mortality 4%.First hospital regarding volume of patients in Spain.I am scheduled daily for one or two elective surgical procedures.

Surgical activity as first assistant surgeon
During my training I acted each day as first assistant surgeon in one or two major cardiac surgical procedures

Surgical activity as main surgeon
339 major cardiac procedures: 121 aortic valve replacement, 74 on-pump myocardial revascularization, 52 off-pump myocardial revascularization, 32 mitral valve surgery, 24 aortic and mitral valve replacement, 36 aortic valve replacement and myocardial revascularization surgery. 
5 cardiac implants as transplant surgeon. 15 cardiac explants for transplantation.
In addition, I have performed 26 saphenous vein graft harvesting using the endoscopic technique Vasoview.

Hospitalization
Each day, each surgeon is responsible for the care and visit of all hospitalized patients (20-30 patients)

  • 1 month: Emergency Department
  • 3 months: Angiology and Vascular Surgery Department
  • 3 months: Cardiology Department
  • 3 months: Thoracic Surgery Department
  • 1 month: Intensive Care Unit
  • 2 months: Accepted in the Heart Rurgery Department in Children´s Hospital of Boston for the months of February and March 2012.
