Biography

I was born in Aviles, Spain. At 16 years old I began the Degree in Medicine in the University of Oviedo. I finished this degree at 23. I started the residency program of cardiac surgery in the Department of Cardiac Surgery of the Central University Hospital of Asturias, Spain. This Department, with 1000 cardiac surgery operations/year, has the highest volume of patients of all the country. During my residency I developed my philosophical thesis. It was defended in 2012 at the age of 28 and was evaluated as “outstanding cum laude”. During my fifth year of training I stayed three months in the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Children Hospital Boston (Harvard School of Medicine) with which I published several works.

I started working as staff in the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Central University Hospital of Asturias, Spain in 2013. Since then, I have performed more than 400 major cardiac surgery operations. I have published more than 20 articlesin the most prestigious journals of the sector as Circulation or Heart and I have published three books. I am commissioned to mark the lines of research within our Department and I act as regular reviewer in the most important journals of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery as Heart, European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery or Journal of Surgical Research.
