Biography

Dr. Xie received his Ph.D. degree in Physiology and Biophysics at Kyoto University, Japan in 1999 from Dr. Akinori Noma’s lab. He then spent 3 years as a post-doctoral research fellow at UCLA (Dr. James Weiss’ lab) before becoming an Assistant Research Scientist in 2002 and Assistant Professor at UCLA in 2006. In 2008, He joined Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School, where I established a dedicated and independent laboratory. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine.

Dr. Xie has significant experience and expertise in studying ion channel function and Calcium dynamics, performing mechanistic studies that define the integrative physiology of biological systems and translational research using unique animal models. He has extensive knowledge of electrophysiology, Ca handling in normal and diseased myocardium and cardiac arrhythmogenesis. He has published more than 60 papers in prestigious journals such as Nature, PNAS, Circulation, Circulation Research, American Journal of Physiology, etc. His work has been cited over 1300 times. He is on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals (such as American Journal of Medical and Biological Research, Frontiers in Physiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Disease Research, World Journal of Hypertension, World Journal of Cardiology, and PLOS One). He has been awarded several prestigious fellowships and grants such as the Japanese Heart Foundation Research Award, American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship, American Heart Association Beginning Grant-in-Aid, American Heart Association National Center Scientist Development Grant, and a NIH R01 Award.
