Previous research

Postdoctoral:

  • 1999-2002 Papillomavirus replication: My colleagues and I created a novel
system to study papillomaviruses using yeast.  This system allows detailed genetic and molecular analyses of replication, transcription and encapsidation of papillomaviruses.
  • 1998-1999 HIV-1 particle release: I discovered that the novel
cellular gene, UBP, functions as a negative co-chaperone effecting Hsp70-dependent folding activity.  Thus, UBP influences HIV-1 particle release through the control of Gag molecule processing and serves as a potential target for anti-HIV therapies.

Doctoral:

  • 1992-1997 Adenovirus replication complexes: I studied the formation of Adenoviral replication factories on the nuclear matrix, mediated by the viral preterminal protein (pTP).
