Biography

Dr. Movahedzadeh received her B.S. degree in medical technology in 1985 and a general doctoral degree in clinical laboratory sciences in 1992 from Medical Sciences University of Iran. She then obtained a Ph.D. degree in microbiology/molecular biology from University College of London and the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR), UK in 1997. After conducting post-doctoral research at NIMR and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she supervised several MS projects, Dr. Movahedzadeh joined the Royal Veterinary College in London. In 2006 she moved to United States and joined the Institute for Tuberculosis Research as a Research Assistant Professor. She has worked 17 years on the molecular genetics of M. tuberculosis. Her main interests include essential genes, virulence, gene regulation and expression, cell wall biosynthesis, and identification of novel drug targets. Dr. Movahedzadeh is an author on several peer-reviewed publications, chapters, abstracts/presentations. She is very passionate about teaching and pursues this in teaching biology at the undergraduate level.
