Biography

Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University, Egypt at 1993 then worked as House officer at the university Hospital for one year, then as a rural physician in the Egyptian Ministry of Health for 4 months,then joined the Egyptian Military Forces as an officer in the Military Hospitals for another year.After that returned back to Tanta University Hospital as a resident in the Pediatric Department for 3 years. During this period cyclic rotation in the 10 units of the department was accomplished. Theseunitsinclude; Cardiology & rheumatologyunit, Chestunit, Gastroenterology & Nutrition, Nephrology, Neurology, Hepatology, Neonatology, Hematology, Emergency & Intensive Care unit. The residency program is a condensed program where the resident stays in the hospital for most of his time with frequent daytime and night shift with condensed exposure to the patients as well as to the teaching opportunity. The special interest was on the neurology & experience with Electroencephalography and Mechanical Ventilation was gained. By the end of the 3 years of residency, the Master degree was achieved.

After completing the residency period, Dr Beltagi was upgraded to be a tutor for 1 year (1998-1999), then as assistant lecturer and specialist in the Pediatric Department in the same University for 6 years (1999-2005). During this period, he was responsible for the care of children with Cardiac & Rheumatic diseases. The cardiac problems involved both congenital and acquired heart diseases specially the rheumatic fever and its complication both acute and chronic. Also, during this period different pediatric diseases were managed by Dr. Beltagi as a part of the daily workflow in the department including gastrointestinal, respiratory, neurological, renal problems etc.

The practical part of the MD degree was concentrating on children with cardiac diseases. Experience with Echocardiography with its variants was gained (Transthoracic, Transesophgeal, Tissue Doppler, Stress Echo etc.). Cooperation with the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department to evaluate the children subjected to cardiac surgery on-table was made.
