Biography

Medical School- University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, graduated May 1978.Pediatric residency at the University of Calgary, Alberta Children’s Hospital and Foothills Hospital from 1982-1985.Chief Resident, Pediatrics 1985-1986. Clinical Research Fellow, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Western Ontario Children’s Hospital from 1986 to 1987.Fellow, Intensive Care and Anesthesia at the University of Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children from 1987 to 1988. Board Certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

July 1988, Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta until 1992.August 1992 – present, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, University of Florida HSC/Jacksonville (tenure granted July 1995). 1993 - 2001 Fellowship Program Director, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Division Chief, Division of Critical Care, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, May 2009-present.

Currently, Attending Physician-Pediatric Critical Care, Medical Director, Outreach Program of Wolfson Children’s Hospital, a regional referral pediatric hospital, Co-Medical Director, Pediatric Transport Team- Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Fellow of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Diplomate of American Board of Pediatrics, Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics in Critical Care Medicine, Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

Awards and honors include Successful Role Model Award, Best Doctor (Community), Medical Student Teaching Apple Award (8 of the past 12 years). University of Florida College of Medicine Exemplary Teaching Award, May 2004, May 2008 and May 2014.
Presidential Citations, Society of Critical Care, 2012, 2013.

Member- American Academy of Pediatrics- Sections in Critical Care and Transport Medicine, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Society of Pediatric Sedation. Florida Medical Association, Northeast Florida Pediatric Society, Florida Association of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.

Member of several committees at the national, community, and hospital levels. 

Published over 42 medical publications. Visiting Professor at several Universities and given many lectures in and out of the United States.
