Teaching

I have successfully completed the TLHP (Teaching and Learning for Health Professionals Certificate) diploma at Bristol University. I was awarded as the Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK in 2013.

I teach all junior staff and update consultant colleagues formally (as part of scheduled teaching rota), as well as didactic ad-hoc bedside and scheduled teaching (including medical students). I have set up weekly MDT meetings with diabetes specialist nurses which are serving a good platform to enhance their knowledge and skills to manage patients with complex needs.

I have also proactively engaged local GP practices and have delivered educational lectures in Diabetes & Endocrinology at several practices. My teaching responsibilities have included:

  • SHO teaching – general medicine whilst on-call and during ward rounds and also general diabetes and endocrinology ward-based teaching and group discussion.
  • Presentations to SHOs, including: “Management of diabetes”, “Oral hypoglycaemics”, “Complications of diabetes”, “Addison’s disease”, “Thyroid disorders” and “Hypertensive crisis”
  • Teaching 3rd, 4th and 5th year medical students in the outpatient clinic and on the wards.
  • Serving as an associate college tutor during my placement at Weston General Hospital in Weston-Super-Mare. It offered me a great opportunity to help the college tutor in improving general professional training, postgraduate education and the maintenance of clinical standards within the trust
  • Involved in conducting both 3rd and 5th year student examinations at the University of Bristol.
  • Teaching candidates preparing for PACES, as well as participating in mock PACES on several occasions.
