Biography

Dr. Yap Yat Hin Desmond is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in Nephrology at the University of Hong Kong and also a visiting scientist at the Division of Molecular Immunology, Nikolaus-Fiebiger Centre, at the Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany. He attained his fellowships in nephrology and internal medicine in 2010 and 2011 respectively, and was conferred Doctor of Medicine in 2014. Dr. Yap joined the University of Hong Kong as Clinical Assistant Professor in 2012. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles and served as a reviewer for different international journals including Nephrology (Carlton), PlosOne, Peritoneal Dialysis International as well as the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases. He is currently an Associate Editor of the Hong Kong Journal of Nephrology and the International Journal of Community and Family Medicine. He previously served as the Honorary Secretary for the Asian Lupus Nephritis Network and the Hong Kong Society of Immunogenetics and Histocompatiblity. His research interests centers on the immunopathogenesis and use of immunosuppressive treatments in glomerular diseases such as lupus nephritis, as well as viral hepatitis infection in renal failure patients. He received the Young Investigator Award from the Hong Kong Society of Nephrology in 2009 for this work on mesangial cell-binding antibodies in lupus nephritis.
