Traian Dumitrica is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota. He received a doctorate in physics from Texas A&M University in 2000. After postdoctoral research at Rice University and Free University Berlin, he joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 2005. Dumitrica’s research interest is in atomistic and multi-scale computational aspects of materials science, with emphasis on the mechanical and thermal properties at the nano-scale. He has published over seventy refereed papers in top journals, like Nature Physics, Physical Review Letters, Small, and ACS Nano. Several of his research projects have been featured in the press, including the New York Times Science Times, Physical Review Focus, Nanotechweb.org, Materials Today, Physical Review Letters (cover in September 2014), and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He is a recipient of the 2008 NSF CAREER award. Dumitrica is serving as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Nano Research and PhysicaScripta.
