Biography

Over my entire professional career, I published 110 technical papers and three 3 books (two books were edited).

Since I joined in the University of Michigan – Dearborn (UM-D) in 2002, I taught 11 different courses, supervised 10 post-doctor fellows, 7 graduate students and 12 undergraduate students. I authored or co-authored 49 journal papers, 25 conference papers, and co-edited 2 books. Many papers were published on top-notch journals based on ISI impact factors. Ten external grants, including 5 NSF grants, and 14 internal research grants were successfully obtained. The total amount of research funding from external and internal sources is $739,908 and $224,600, respectively.

During my tenured period (2008–present), besides continuing in my existing research areas, I took one year (2008-2009) to open up a new research field (the digital diagnosis of material damage), which is the marriage of computer science, materials science, sensor technology and numerical analysis. I taught 8 different courses and supervised 7 post-doctoral fellows, 3 graduate students and 4 undergraduate students. Approximately 15 undergraduate students were advised each year. I authored or co-authored 11 journal papers and 5 conference papers. A unique Michigan 3D Center was established under my supervision. 6 external grants, including 4 NSF grants, and 6 internal research grants were successfully obtained. The total amount of research funding from external and internal sources is $458,792 and $87,600, respectively. In international collaborations, $146,400 funding was attracted for performing various research activities.

I served as an editorial board member for two international journals; an organizer for 8 international conferences; an associate editor of 2 international conference proceedings; a program committee member for 17 international conferences; a session chair for 11 international or national conferences; a board member for 3 international- or national-level technical committees; and a member for various committees at department and campus levels within the University of Michigan - Dearborn.
