Research Support

Grant Awards:

(1) G12 RRRRO3034 - 6/08 - 5/11
NIH/NCRR/RCMI
Subproject: AIDS Infrastructure and Research Development

The main goal of this project is to foster development of a major area of research at Morehouse School of Medicine which crosses basic science and clinical disciplines.

(2) Grant # 3R01DA027049-04S1 - 9/12 - 9/14
Project Title: Poly drug nanocarrier to treat opiate addiction and HIV disease.

This is a supplemental grant to foster minority faculty in research institutions. Primary objectives of this research project are to study the effects of Nef+ exosomes on neuronal cells in the presence of heroin and the feasibility to treat opiate addiction and HIV-induced disease with anti-viral/anti-mu receptor nanocarriers.

(3) Mount Sinai Summer Institute for NeuroAIDS Disparities (MSINaD) Scholar Grant - 6/14 - 8/15

Project title: Identification by targeted exome capture of immunogenetic variations in anti-viral pattern recognition receptors that predispose African-Americans to HIV infection and neuroAIDS. The proposal describes how we intend to use targeted exome capture and massively parallel sequencing to identify genetic variations in innate immune receptors associated with anti-viral immunity in African-Americans (AAs) that impact functional antiviral immune responses. Results from this study may indicate that genetic variation in innate immune receptors of AAs impair anti-viral immune responses thereby explaining the disparity of HIV infections among those of African ancestry in the United States, $20,000.
