Biography

Marc Pfister is Vice-Chair of the Paediatric Pharmacology Department at the University Children's Hospital Basel and is Professor of Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology at the University of Basel since 2014. Prof. Pfister graduated from the University of Bern in 1988, where he received his MD and completed his training as an Internist and Nephrologist. He was a research fellow in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacometrics at the University of California San Francisco where he got his certificate in Advanced PK/PD Modeling. Before joining the global consulting company Quantitative Solutions as Chief Medical Officer in 2011, he served as Medical Director (2004-2006) and as Executive Director (2006-2010) of Translational Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology at Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he formed and led the Computer Modeling & Simulation (Pharmacometrics) research group with up to 25 scientists.

Prof. Pfister is Co-Founder of the American Conference on Pharmacometrics (ACoP) and the International Society of Pharmacometrics (ISoP, www.go-isop.org), which he led as president 2012-2013. Under his leadership ISoP became a global society with more than 1000 members from 30 countries and five continents. Prof. Pfister is a member of the editorial board of several journals including CPT: Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology and the Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. He also served as board member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) and section chair of the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT). Prof. Pfister is a Fellow of ACCP and ISoP and received the prestigious Leadership Award at the ACoP 2013 Meeting in the U.S.

His main interest is to foster the triplet of Integration-Innovation-Impact and apply quantitative pharmacology and pharmacometrics to facilitate research and development of new medicines and optimize utilization of existing medicines to benefit sick children and their parents.

Marc Pfister, who lived 2000-2014 in the U.S., has a Swiss-American Dual Citizenship. He lives with his wife and their three children in Thun, Switzerland.
