Biography

Christiane Hampe is currently Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She earned her PhD at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

After completing her PhD, Hampe joined the laboratory of Dr. AkeLernmark at the University of Washington as a PostDoctoral Fellow. She remained in Dr. Lernmark’s research group for 7 years. During this time she developed new methods for the investigation of autoantibodies in Type 1 diabetes and in neurological autoimmune diseases. This work has helped understand the autoimmune response in these diseases.

In 2010Hampe accepted the position of Associate Professor at the University of Washington. Her research focus includes the role of specific autoantibody epitopes as biomarkers for different clinical phenotypes of autoimmune diabetes, anti-idiotypic antibodies as potential regulatory elements in the humoral immune response and the discovery of novel treatment options for autoimmune diabetes and autoimmune neurological disorders.

To date Dr. Hampe has published over 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts and maintains national and international collaborations.
