Biography

Remi Charrel is MD and PhD. He is a specialist in vector-borne and zoonotic viral diseases, as well as respiratory viral infections. He was trained in Aix Marseille Medical School and went for 2 years for post-doctoral fellowship in the WHO Reference Centre for Tropical Diseases at University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas. He is the author of >200 peer-reviewed articles, 21 book chapters, and was coordinator or PI for 16 projects funded by NIH, European Commission and the French Research Agency. He is deputy director of the Virology Research Unit at Aix Marseille University. He is currently working in clinical microbiology hospital laboratory and is also the deputy-director of the "Unite des Virus Emergents" at Aix Marseille University, a founding research laboratory of the University Hospital Institute Mediterranée Infection.
